This has gone from my spot to share all my questions, fears and experiences to a necessary outlet for the good, bad and the ugly that goes along with having two boys. I wouldn't change it for the world!

Two Month Appointment

Baby Johnny's two month appointment was last week. I was SO nervous about him getting his shots because it is shocking and painful for him. I've also been going back and forth on the necessity of all these shots. I know everyone has an opinion about newborn shots. I was conflicted. Although, Johnny and I both had our shots and turned out good (except for that extra toe Johnny has and my extra belly button hole, but who's judging!).

While we were waiting for his appointment, I could hear kids getting their shots and screaming! Ugh. I knew I should've waited for Johnny to come with me! I do not want to hear my son cry or let him see me cry!! We went in and the NP weighed him, measured him, checked him out. She said he looks fantastic! He weighs 11 lb 2 oz. now. Yeah! Way to grow.

While we were waiting for the nurse to come in and give his dreaded shots, I thought I would feed him a little while he sat in his diaper. Suddenly my lap gets warm and all of a sudden there's a mess...in my lap, on Baby Johnny's back, legs, on the chair!!  I had to open the door and ask for assistance from a nurse so I could set Baby Johnny down and try to clean myself up! This is clean!!

While it was a mess, it did help distract me from his shots and I could focus on trying to comfort Baby J after his shot series. I hope he doesn't think I was punishing him for messing on some of my favorite jeans. ;0P They said he could be fussy, get a fever, be a little needy. He slept pretty heavy for that and the next day, wanted to be held, but never got a fever. Yeah! Now, back to the house so I can change.

Did you have all your shots as a child? Such a controversial topic.

Growing Boy

Last week we had our 20 week ultrasound and the tech confirmed that we were having a boy. Johnny and I decided not to offer up the fact that we already knew because we heard about another lady that had Kaiser tell her she was having a girl and an outside ultrasound facility said it was a boy. We just wanted to see if the tech's answer would concur.

Immediately during our ultrasound, she said "Oh, there it is. You're definitely having a boy!" (I'll spare you more pics of his privates.) She continued with the ultrasound pointing out different body parts, organs, etc. and complying with my constant questions. She said he weighed 13 oz. already and estimated the due date at October 19th (sorry Bro, you may have to share your BD). That's 3 oz. bigger than what the book says for 20 weeks! Maybe it's those burgers we've been eating. Ha!

That Friday we met with the Midwife who confirmed that he looked healthy. Always nice to hear. I measured at 21" and wegot to hear his heartbeat again. He's a busy bee in there at about 144 beats/minute. Now we won't see our Midwife again until July.

Check out that spine! Nice, huh?!

It's Official!! We're Having A BOY!

We had an 18 week appointment today at an ultrasound facility for gender determination and yes....it's a BOY!!!! I think it's in the jeans! Ha. I mean the genes.

The 3D one is kinda freaky, but Johnny's saying he's #1, like we didn't know. ;0) That better be his pointer finger!!

Week 16 Appointment

16 weeks/4 months already!! It seems to be going by so fast. My friends and family keep warning me that towards the end of the pregnancy I will feel like I'm so ready to be done.  Regardless, I'm enjoying every minute of it. Today was our 16 week appointment and Midwife Roberts said the baby's heartbeat was 146/min. Normal is 100-160, so Baby Shebl is definitely active. We heard the baby kick through the monitor, but I can't feel it yet. I tried to convince MW Roberts to do an ultrasound, but she was immune to my charm.

Only 4 more weeks til we find out the sex, June 1st!!

Week 12 Appointment

Our week 12 appointment was today and can I tell you I went to it with mixed emotions. I had worked myself into a frenzy starting yesterday and didn't sleep my usual deep pregnant sleep worried about today's appointment. I had started worrying that there wouldn't be a heartbeat and then I would worry that there would be and I got nervous about becoming a parent. Silly, I know.

We met the Midwife who I liked very much. She was very sweet, patient and considerate. She let us hear the heartbeat before doing my exam. We heard Baby Shebl's heartbeat on a little hand held contraption with a speaker and a tiny wand on the end of it. I tried to hold it in, but as soon as I heard it's quick little pitter patter, I cried. From there we did my exam, which I will spare you the details because I believe it was the least fun female exam I've ever had thus far (if there was a fun scale for probing).

Anyhow, after the exam she was asking us questions and talking about things to watch for, to try to do, etc. but all I could think about was the heartbeat I heard. I asked if we could hear the heartbeat one more time. I expected her to say no since I knew she had other patients. But...she looked at me sweetly and said, "oh, ok". I was elated!! She tried with the hand held monitor for a few minutes and when she couldn't find it said, "I am determined to find this stubborn baby that keeps running from me." She went and retrieved the big, portable ultrasound machine and we got to see our baby, unexpectedly. This time we saw a baby. John was pointing out all the parts: arm, leg, head, nose, heartbeat. It was so amazing!! Then Baby Shebl turned on his/her back which was cool to see. That US experience made it feel pretty real! MW Roberts printed out 4 copies for us since I told her I was going to see my mom and mother-in-law the next day. They each got their own US picture. I look at that photo almost everyday and can't wait for the next one.

Meet Baby Shebl!! Baby is on his/her back and you can see the head to the left, an arm sticking up and a leg below the stomach. You can see where the face is developing and the ear canal.  So amazing!!!

Week 8 - Our First Appointment

At our first appointment yesterday we didn't get to hear the heartbeat like we thought, but we did get our first picture of our new bundle of joy. We also got to see the heartbeat on the ultrasound. Our baby looks like a frog right now, tiny but growing. We scheduled our next appointments and found out the due date, they're saying October 23! That means that we got pregnant in the first few days of our honeymoon. No time to waste, huh?! I never knew that they add two weeks to your conception date based on your last period. (Sorry to any guys that may read this and cringe at the P word.)

When we scheduled our appointments today, we booked our ultrasound appointment to find out what we're having. The exciting date will be June 1. Our next appointment will be April 9 when we get to hear the heartbeat and meet a mid wife.

Our First Dr. Appt

Actually it's with a nurse practitioner. Anyhow...yes, our first appt is tomorrow and we will get to hear a heart beat!! OMG!! I am so excited. While, my mom thinks we've figured out the due date to be October 18, we will see what they say tomorrow. I am anxious to hear that everything is going as it should be and to ask my multitude of questions.

This is what the baby looks like at 9 weeks, according to Baby Center. At least it's tail is gone now, right Mom?! Ha.
