This has gone from my spot to share all my questions, fears and experiences to a necessary outlet for the good, bad and the ugly that goes along with having two boys. I wouldn't change it for the world!

Newest Developments...More Cravings!!

So for those of you that eat with me regularly, know that I'm not a big red meat eater. I refer to myself as "low meat". Ha! Anyhow...recently this is not the case. I CRAVE thick, meaty hamburgers!! Real ones. Not veggie, turkey or black bean which I would've preferred before. If it's not real meat, don't bring it. I don't know what happened to the picture of the delicious, half devoured burger I was going to add to this post, but ya'all know what a good burger looks like. Mmmm....now I'm on a mission to find my favorite one.

Tried so far:
Tahoe Joes
Flaming Grill
33rd Street Bistro

Let me know if you think you know where the best burger is. I'm open for suggestions. ;0)

Week 8 - Our First Appointment

At our first appointment yesterday we didn't get to hear the heartbeat like we thought, but we did get our first picture of our new bundle of joy. We also got to see the heartbeat on the ultrasound. Our baby looks like a frog right now, tiny but growing. We scheduled our next appointments and found out the due date, they're saying October 23! That means that we got pregnant in the first few days of our honeymoon. No time to waste, huh?! I never knew that they add two weeks to your conception date based on your last period. (Sorry to any guys that may read this and cringe at the P word.)

When we scheduled our appointments today, we booked our ultrasound appointment to find out what we're having. The exciting date will be June 1. Our next appointment will be April 9 when we get to hear the heartbeat and meet a mid wife.

Our First Dr. Appt

Actually it's with a nurse practitioner. Anyhow...yes, our first appt is tomorrow and we will get to hear a heart beat!! OMG!! I am so excited. While, my mom thinks we've figured out the due date to be October 18, we will see what they say tomorrow. I am anxious to hear that everything is going as it should be and to ask my multitude of questions.

This is what the baby looks like at 9 weeks, according to Baby Center. At least it's tail is gone now, right Mom?! Ha.

I Love to Exercise...And Eat!

So...with pregnancy comes the need to eat frequently. Flour tortillas have become a staple item in my diet. They are great with soup, tacos (duh), breakfast burritos, alone, with some butter, etc.  Luckily, I like to work out. I walk our pup almost everyday and try to go to the gym or get a good 30+ minute walk in a minimum of 5 times/week. Cardio is my friend and at this point I'm starting to think that it may be my only saving grace to not gaining 100 lbs. with this pregnancy. 75...maybe. That's normal, right?! Ha. Most of the books say not to get your heart rate above 140, which is pretty easy to do.

I came to the realization that your body is not only changing for the baby, but preparing you for what the next few years of your baby's life will be: sleep-a-plenty, eating frequently, and restroom stops. Forget G.T.L. (gym, tan, laundry--sorry, Jersey Shore reference), my new lifestyle is S.E.P. (sleep, eat, pee).

As I move into my 9th week, I am super anxious for the second trimester where the energy kicks in! Yeah! Can't wait. Ok...gotta go take a napies now. Hasta.

First Prego Pic

So once a month we will take a picture to see how I grow and change.  This is the first photo for the series. Not much going on, except my Cinnamon Bun Pancake belly. ;0P

Scrumptious Recipe

So in this blog I will also share recipes for things that any pregnant woman (with cravings) should try, or just those that prefer a little sweetness now and then.

This week I made Cinnamon Bun Pancakes! Don't ask how many times. But regardless, just the name sounds delicious. I found the recipe a la The Pioneer Woman, who I stalk. To find the full recipe, visit her site here. Don't forget the maple icing. Mmmmm....good thing I froze some!

These would be a fantastic Christmas morning treat (and the other 364 days for those of us with cravings). ;0)

Foods to Avoid When Pregnant

So every morning now I wake up hungry. 8-10 hours without eating is too long for me now. When I wake up I start thinking about what sounds good. Some days everything sounds good, some days nothing, other days a craving will strike and I am forced to comply. For example: last Saturday I was lying in bed watching the news, when a salsa commercial came on and suddenly I could smell one of Hubbie's famous breakfast burritos! I had to have one. I jumped out of bed and ran to the store for the missing ingredients, turkey bacon and onions and rushed back to start chopping and mixing up all the goodies (potatoes, onions, garlic, tomatoes, turkey bacon, eggs, hot sauce, salsa). Mmmmmm.....now I know how it feels to have an addiction. When I get a craving, I can think of nothing else until it's satisfied.

Anyhow, since being pregnant I have found that there are many items that I CAN'T have. While most doctors won't see you until 9-12 weeks for your first appointment they should at least send out a list of foods to try to avoid. I have heard about most from friends and other moms. I thought I would throw together a list of items I've been told to avoid, not just to share but to remind me too.

Disclaimer: These are items told to limit or avoid. I understand that some don't agree with all of these. This is just my personal compilation of items I've been told.

FOODS TO AVOID OR LIMIT:

1. sunny side eggs (no runny yolk)
2. sushi /raw fish (WWAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!)
3. caffeine
4. alcohol (sometimes I smell red wine, even though it's not open ;0( )
5. artificial sweetners
6. lunch meat (unless heated....ewwww)
7. anything made with raw eggs (ex: traditional Caesar salad dressing)
8. smoked seafood
9. fish with mercury (swordfish, shark, etc.)
10. soft cheeses (brie, beta, Camembert, queso fresco, etc.)
11. raw shellfish (oysters, clams, etc.)
12. Herbal supplements & teas
13. Unpasteurized juice (no farmer's market cider)

Did I miss any?? Do these all apply when you're breastfeeding too??

Don't worry Samurai Sushi or Sushi Boat, Davis! I'll be back!

My Questions During Pregnancy

So as our journey continues, my mind floods with questions. They are spaced out a little farther now then in the beginning but I have many questions none the less. Please don't hesitate to answer my questions based on your own experience or professional knowledge. Here are some of my questions or responses to my findings so far.

1. I've heard that I shouldn't have artificial sweetner. Does this mean that I shouldn't have things made with artificial sweetner either?

2. I can't have lunch meat unless it's heated? Maybe I should avoid processed meats all together.

3. Can I continue to work out as hard as I did before? Should my HR really not get above 140? Not sure that it ever did, but...

4. Can I continue to lift heavy things, if necessary, as I did before? Not sure when I lift heavy stuff, but thought I should check. You never know when I may need to lift a car off a trapped person or something.

5. Can I sleep on my stomach? Silly, I know. Hello, first time!

6. Can I continue to take supplements? I have NanoGreens protein shakes at least once a week. Should I stop?

7. What is the difference between prenatal vitamins? I can't tell except for price.

8. How much calcium am I supposed to have? 1000 mg/day? What if I don't drink milk? Do I need to take calcium pills?

9. The books say no hot tubs or super hot baths. Does it matter how hot my shower is? I like it pretty hot.

10. I'm slowly switching to decaf coffee, but I've read research that decaf is processed with more chemicals than regular coffee. Could this be worse for the baby?

11. I haven't felt any cramping or pulling for a few days. How do I know the baby is still growing?

12. If I wear a bra 24 hours a day will it help my breasts to feel less like an over used punching bag?

13. OMG! Spotting is scary. How do I know when to be worried?

14. Our bathroom needs to be painted. Can I still do that? Or do I need to use the pregnancy as a excuse reason to wait?

15. Can I still bleach my teeth? Or could the peroxide get to baby and come out glowing?

16. WHEN WILL I START SHOWING???!!
